DESCRIPTION:Unveiling of “Ancient Advance” by artist Rowan Cary \nIntroduction by Mike Steele \nComments by the artist and Phil Long\, Lake Chelan Research Institute. \nHors d’oeuvres and refreshments \nPlease let us know if you plan to attend by sending an email to: info@lakechelan.com \n  \nAbout the painting: \nAncient Advance depicts what Chelan looked like ~17\,000 years ago as a tongue of the continental\nice sheet advanced up the Chelan Valley. The ice sheet descended the Columbia Plateau and the\nColumbia River Valley before pushing up the Chelan Valley.\nSomewhere between Lakeside and Rocky Point\, the ice moving up the valley met the glacier moving\ndown the Chelan Valley. From that point in time the entire Chelan Valley was full of glacial ice until the\nice began to melt ~15\,000 years ago. \nCommissioned on behalf of the Lake Chelan Research Institute\, Ancient Advance is the intersection\nof art and science\, aiming to help viewers envision several hundred feet of glacial ice covering the\nCity of Chelan.\nAncient Advance will be displayed at locations throughout the Chelan Valley during the late summer\nand fall of 2025 (starting with the Chelan Chamber) and auctioned as a fundraiser for the Lake\nChelan Research Institute later in the year.\nFor more info go to: https://lakechelanresearchinstitute.com/
