Here’s how to do “Blossom Season” like a local this April.

Timing the “Pop”
Predicting the exact day the blossoms will open is a favorite local pastime. It generally follows a “bottom-up” pattern:
- Mid-April: The orchards at the lowest elevations near the city of Chelan and the south shore typically begin to bloom first.
- Late April: As the ground warms, the higher-elevation orchards in Manson and off Boyd Road reach their peak. By the final week of April, the entire valley is usually in full bloom.
The Best Vantage Points
To truly appreciate the scale of the blossoms, you need to get above the lake level. These three spots offer the most panoramic views:
- The Manson Loop: Drive up Hwy 150 toward Manson and take the backroads through the hills. This area has the highest concentration of apple orchards, and seeing the rows of white trees against the blue backdrop of the lake is a classic Lake Chelan view.
- Chelan Valley Farms: Located near Roses Lake, this working farm offers a fantastic opportunity to see blossoms up close. Their tasting room at Lagriōth Winery provides a front-row seat to the orchards and the North Cascade peaks.
- Boyd Rd/Echo Valley: Head toward the north end of the valley. The rolling hills here are densely packed with trees, creating a “snow-covered” effect when the petals begin to fall.

- Manson Apple Blossom Festival: While the main festival takes place in May (May 8-10, 2026), April is when the town prepares. You’ll see the local “Royalty” at community events and witness the orchards coming to life.
- The Wenatchee Apple Blossom Festival (Starts April 23): Just a short drive south, our neighbors in Wenatchee begin their 107th annual festival at the end of the month. If you’re in town for the final week of April, it’s worth the 40-minute trip to catch the Food Fair and early carnival events.
A Peek into Orchard Life
If you’re staying overnight during a clear April stretch, you might hear a low, rhythmic hum coming from the hills. These are the wind machines. They are used by orchardists to pull warmer air down to the trees, protecting the sensitive blossoms from freezing during the night.
